St. Cloud Times — India native Hari Krashna traveled thousands of miles to attend classes at St. Cloud State University. The graduate student is seeking a master of science in information assurance.
According to a report issued last week by the Minnesota State Demographic Center, about 24,000 people move to Minnesota from outside the U.S. each year. Their numbers help offset the roughly 113,000 who leave the state annually. The remaining deficit is wiped out by an additional 101,000 people who, on average, move into Minnesota from within the country.
The demographic center research found that since 2002, newcomers like Krashna have kept the state’s population from dropping — though once he finishes school, there’s no guarantee he’ll use his newly obtained skills to work in the area.
