St. Cloud State University Esports will host two significant gaming tournaments in March, allowing the region to compete in SCSU’s state-of-the-art Huskies Esports Arena.
SCSU will host the third edition of Northstar on March 8-9. The regional esports tournament is the community’s premier on-campus tournament each spring.
Participants can compete in Super Smash Brothers Ultimate, Super Smash Brothers Melee, Project+, Street Fighter 6, Rocket League, Tekken 8, Guilty Gear Strive, Rivals of Aether 2 and Valorant. Each title will have a cash prize for the winning player or team depending on registration numbers.
“This event has given SCSU students many opportunities to be tournament organizers, broadcasters, shoutcasters and more,” said SCSU Esports Director Justin Bragg. “Attendees can watch the competitions or connect with fellow gamers from our community.”
The Minnesota Varsity League (MNVL) esports state finals will take place March 1-2 in the Atwood Ballroom and Huskies Esports Arena. High school and middle school competitions will take place in a variety of games, including League of Legends, Minecraft, Super Smash Brothers Ultimate, Mario Kart, Rocket League, Fortnite, Valorant and Chess.
Nearly 1,000 total players, staff parents and friends are expected to be in attendance, where students have a chance to be recognized for their gameplay, win a state championship and an opportunity to win scholarship money for college.
