St. Cloud State University is participating in the NexTrex Recycling Challenge this year, aiming to collect over 1,000 pounds of soft film plastics and packaging.
Materials include grocery bags, bubble wrap, Ziploc storage containers and case overwraps for water or soft drinks. A full list of materials to recycle can be found on NexTrex’s website.
“This sustainability challenge is a good opportunity to make a difference and to show some pride in our campus,” said Danielle Olson, associate director of Residential Life. “We hope the entire campus community can help contribute to this project.”
Collection bins are located in the residential life mailroom and in the entrance of each residence hall, and supplies can also be brought to the Residential Life office in Hill Hall.
About 100 pounds have already been collected, while the deadline to hit the 1,000-pound goal is June 30, 2026. Once 1,000 pounds are collected, composite decking company Trex sends a complimentary maintenance-free bench to be installed on campus.
SCSU could also use help in delivering the materials to local collection sites, which include Coborn’s, Fresh Thyme and Kohls. Contact [email protected] for more info.
