St. Cloud State’s Kyle Johnson, Rogers, began his career as a land surveyor for a national land and energy development consulting agency while still in college.
The full-time student will graduate from St. Cloud State spring 2015, but he already works as a survey technician for Westwood Professional Services at the company’s St. Cloud location.
“Attending my surveying classes at St. Cloud State has helped me gain much more knowledge about different aspects of surveying and help me produce the work that I do,” Johnson said.
The company provides services to private and public clients in land surveying, aerial mapping, civil engineering, environmental planning and construction management. As a survey technician, Johnson works with 3-D computer-aided design and drafting software to prepare various land surveys for development planning.
Johnson balances work life with school and will receive his bachelor’s degree in Land Surveying and Mapping Science.
“It’s a busy life taking a full schedule of classes while working for the company,” Johnson said. “Working at Westwood has taught me things that has helped me with my school work and made it easier.”
After graduation, Johnson plans to continue working for Westwood Professional Services as a Land Surveyor in training.
