St. Cloud Times — In 1858, the Minnesota Legislature authorized funds to create three state normal schools. During the decade that followed, colleges were established in Winona in 1860, in Mankato in 1868 and in St. Cloud in 1869. Until 1873, the St. Cloud college was called Third State Normal School. Today it is St. Cloud State University.
