SCSU, SCTCC strengthen relationships with partnership summit

Faculty, staff and administrators from St. Cloud State University and St. Cloud Technical & Community College joined together for a partnership summit on SCSU’s campus on July 16, demonstrating the two institutions dedication to collaborate on future endeavors.

“SCSU and SCTCC are both Minnesota State system institutions serving the greater St. Cloud State area, so it’s important that we have a strong partnership,” said Dr. Jason Woods, Vice President for Strategic Enrollment Management and Student Affairs.

Focused on discovery: Reimagining the SCSU Honors College

Jennifer Cavalli had a unique view on Honors when she interviewed to be the Executive Director of the newly-established Honors College at St. Cloud State. 

“Honors is for everyone: it’s about motivation, drive and dedication,” Cavalli said. “Past academic performance is not the most important thing. Engagement with one’s community, the motivation to take risks with learning … that type of intellectual curiosity carries a lot more weight.”

Husky Productions wins SVG College Sports Media Award

SCSU’s student-run organization Husky Productions has won a national award. After being nominated for six SVG College Sports Media Awards last month, SCSU took home the top prize for Outstanding Live Non-Game Production in the Collegiate Student division.

Husky Faceoff: St. Cloud State vs. Denver Pregame was honored at the 16th-Annual 2024 SVG/NACDA College Sports Media Awards on May 29.

SCSU professor co-authors publication in prestigious science journal

Biology Assistant Professor Angela McDonnell recently co-authored a publication in the prestigious journal Nature titled Phylogenomics and the rise of the angiosperms.

“Having a publication in a journal like Nature, which spans all of science, is kind of a one-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” McDonnell said. “I feel really grateful to have amazing collaborators and colleagues that also want to work with me.”

SCSU honored as a top broadcast school; Husky Productions finalists for six SVG awards

St. Cloud State University was recently ranked by the Broadcast Education Association for their institutional excellence in media, ranked as the No. 5 sports program and No. 27 overall program in the country.

SCSU’s student-run organization Husky Productions has also earned national recognition by being named finalists for six 2024 Sports Video Group (SVG) awards.

SCSU students impress at Model United Nations

St. Cloud State University students had a tremendous showing at MinneMUN 2024 last month, the collegiate Model UN conference hosted by the University of Minnesota team every Spring.

SCSU was awarded Outstanding Delegation, and students brought home awards for Outstanding Delegate in the Third Committee, Best Delegate and Outstanding Delegate on the Korean Crisis Committee and Honorable Mention on the Crime Commission.
