KNSI — Local scientists say a recent NASA mission was a success and could one day save the planet from a killer asteroid. Earlier this week, the space agency used a satellite to hit a rock orbiting an asteroid about seven million miles from earth. Saint Cloud State University Assistant Professor Rachel Humphrey says the satellite used for the Double Asteroid Redirection Test was launched ten months before making an impact.
KNSI — A local orthopedics provider has been chosen as the exclusive medical partner for St. Cloud State University Athletics. CentraCare M Physicians Orthopedics will provide sports medicine services to St. Cloud State athletes, including mental health services.
WJON — Fans attending a hockey game this season at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center should notice some major upgrades. St. Cloud State University has invested about $1.2 million in brand new LED video displays and significantly enhanced the sound system.
BEMIDJI PIONEER — St. Cloud State alumna Janelle Vanasse ’91 has been chosen to lead Alaska Pacific University in Anchorage, Alaska. Vanasse earned her degree in special education from St. Cloud State.

Robin Chen, Assistant Professor of Economics at St. Cloud State University, said the bear market we are seeing right now is related to recent interest rate hikes enacted by the Federal Reserve, in an attempt to help curb inflation.
UW OSHKOSH — St. Cloud State alumnus Aaron Konitzer has been named the new head wrestling coach at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. Aaron earned his master’s in sports administration at SCSU.

KVSC — St. Cloud State University has been re-designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense through the academic year of 2027.
The National Security Agency says they launched the Center of Academic Excellence to help reduce threats to U.S. infrastructure by promoting higher education and research in cyber defense by providing the nation with qualified cybersecurity professionals. The designation at St. Cloud State University has earned 12 grants related to cybersecurity from the NSA, Department of Defense and the National Science Foundation totaling more than $4.7 million since 2009.
KNSI — As the midterm election cycle heats up, polling firms are trying to get an accurate read on the races. That isn’t always easy to do. St. Cloud State University Political Science Department Chair Jim Cottrill says 2016, in particular, provided some valuable lessons about meticulously ensuring that the sample a pollster obtains is truly representative of the overall population, including historically “shy” voters.
