ST. CLOUD LIVE — It seems like there isn’t a job that Holly Schreiner hasn’t had in the St. Cloud State athletic department. Schreiner was named the school’s full-time athletic director on May 10, 2023, after a year as the interim. She has worked in the St. Cloud State athletic department for 18 years, but has had a full-time job with the school since 2000.
KNSI — St. Cloud State University faculty and students are part of a group preparing to study the effects of solar eclipses on the upper reaches of the atmosphere. Assistant Professor Rachel Humphrey says experts from across the country will be looking to see what data is gathered by the project. So far, the group has been testing its equipment in Mora.
Humphrey says it’s similar to the balloons used by the National Weather Service but these go much higher. Early trials have gone well. Humphrey says, “And what’s great is that, so far, we’ve had really successful launches, where our weather balloons have been tracked up to over 32,000 meters, so that is over 100,000 feet in altitude.”
WJON — A new partnership will give clinical research students at St. Cloud State University hands-on experience with cutting-edge technology.
SCSU has partnered with Veeva Systems, a California-based software company, to provide the Veeva Vault eTMF program to students at SCSU’s Applied Clinical Research Program in Plymouth, Minnesota.
WJON — For the fourth year in a row, St. Cloud State University has been recognized as one of the best schools to transfer to. Phi Theta Kappa’s Transfer Honor Roll looks at 40 metrics, like admission practices, college cost, and financial aid.
SCSU is the only public institution in Minnesota, and one of 208 colleges and universities nationwide to earn a spot on the honor roll. The university was recognized for excellence in developing pathways for community college transfer students. Phi Theta Kappa’s Honor Roll is an online tool designed to help students find the best-fit colleges and career pathways.
KNSI — St. Cloud State University has been awarded two grants to provide updated training to workers from central Minnesota companies.
The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development awarded $50,000 to the university to help Pinnacle Climate Technologies and $216,000 to assist Landwehr Construction Inc. The training will be conducted through SCSU’s Minnesota Job Skills Partnership.
WJON — It’s been a tradition on the St. Cloud State University campus for five decades now. This is the 50th annual Lemonade Concert and Art Fair. The event runs Thursday, June 22nd from 11:00 a.m. until 8:30 p.m.
From 1974 through 1998 it was held in July or August, but it has been in late June since 1999. The first fair featured more than 40 artists, and by the mid-90s as many as 300 art vendors were part of the fair.
WJON — St. Cloud State University unveiled a new, state-of-the-art, autism research center.
The Linda (’74) and Richard Offerdahl Autism Discovery Center at SCSU will provide students an opportunity to work directly with patients to discover the best treatment options.
ST. CLOUD LIVE — St. Cloud State University has appointed Abbey Zink to the position of provost and vice president for academic affairs, according to a news release.
The university announced the appointment on Monday, April 17. Zink will begin her duties on July 1.
WJON— After meeting with early childhood educators, a math professor at St. Cloud State University has developed a first-of-its-kind library of activity kits to promote learning math concepts at home.
Dr. Melissa Hanzsek-Brill created a line of kits called PAKCAT, or Parents and Kids Counting A Lot Together, in cooperation with the St. Cloud Area School District.
ST. CLOUD LIVE — If you visit the St. Cloud State University campus these days, you might discover some dark but very lively rooms: gathering spaces for students to participate in esports.
The university is going all in on esports, President Robbyn R. Wacker said on Monday, April 3, at the launch of the school’s new esports arena. St. Cloud State’s approach to esports is unique, Wacker said.
