Dr. Potter Bigs on Campus celebrates seven years in 2023

St. Cloud State University celebrated the seventh year of the Dr. Potter Bigs on Campus Program with an end of year celebration on May 10 in the Atwood Memorial Center.

The Bigs on Campus program brings together faculty, staff and alumni with students from South Junior High and Tech High School for a mentorship relationship that offers students to become more familiar with a college campus, and to allow students to think about life after high school and what their futures could look like.

Visit St. Cloud State during Minnesota State Week June 26-30

Students considering their higher education options are invited to take the first step in reaching their education and career goals by visiting St. Cloud State University during Minnesota State Week this June.

Minnesota State Week is a promotion intended to drive student awareness and virtual and in-person campus visits, as appropriate. This year, Minnesota State Week is June 26-30.

St. Cloud State celebrates graduates during Spring 2023 Commencement

St. Cloud State University celebrated its latest wave of graduates over six ceremonies during Spring 2023 Commencement on May 5.

About 1,077 students out of 1,259 total graduates participated in Commencement ceremonies throughout the day.

A St. Cloud State University faculty member was honored with a Board of Trustees Awards for Excellence by Minnesota State Colleges and Universities on April 19.

Hailey Olson, Assistant Director for Career Development and Outreach in SCSU’s Career Center, has received a 2023 Outstanding Service Faculty award.

A St. Cloud State University professor has received recognition from the largest academic community of mathematicians and mathematics students in the nation and Canada.

Dr. Melissa Hanzsek-Brill, Professor of Mathematics & Mathematics Education and STEM Education Coordinator, recently received the North Central Section’s 2023 Award for Distinguished College Teaching of Mathematics from the Mathematical Association of America.

Education Minnesota announced 11 finalists for the 2023 Minnesota Teacher of the Year Award, with a St. Cloud State alumnus making it on the narrowed down list.

Joe Schulte ’01 ’08 advanced to the round of finalists after advancing to the list of 44 semifinalists announced in March out of the initial list of 132 candidates named.

SCSU students claim top broadcast and journalism honors

St. Cloud State Mass Communications students working for Husky Productions and UTVS earned multiple top honors from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association and the Society of Professional Journalists in April.

SCSU took home a total of 13 awards from the three organizations.
