Hurricane Ian hit Florida toward the end of September, leaving destruction and tragedy in its wake. Hundreds of lives were lost between Cuba and the southeastern United States, and damages upward of $50 billion were sustained. Throughout it all, alumnus Gordon Severson ’10 was on the ground to bear witness.

St. Cloud State University Communication Sciences and Disorders graduate students completed a community outreach pilot program this summer, tackling a growing need for children to receive attention for suspected communication disorders. The program, named Husky Pediatric Outreach for Unique Needs in Communication Education (POUNCE), ran for eight weeks between June 15-Aug. 3.

Lieutenant Lori Ellering ’95 ‘06 of the St. Cloud Police Department is the instructor of CJS 421 P.O.S.T. Administration, a required course for students wishing to become licensed peace officers in Minnesota. In this course, students take an in-depth look at the principles of law enforcement, stress/crisis intervention, crime prevention, community relations, court testimony, communications, and cultural awareness.
