Boon or bust, HD Radio alters Minnesota airwaves

For years, David Waletzko didn’t stock HD Radio receivers at his Albany electronics store.

But nearby station KASM-AM and its companions entered a new, digital world in September. Ever since, Waletzko’s been selling “a number of” HD Radio tuners at Community Technology Center.

The St. Cloud State University-hosted station began broadcasting HD Radio signals last spring, boosted by a relationship with a transmitter manufacturer, Gray said.

“We weren’t an incredibly early adopter,” he said. “I will say we’re an innovator.”

He said Nautel recognized KVSC as a “great test bed” for its transmitter technology.
