A dozen students have earned two-year scholarships of up to $12,000 in the first round of awards facilitated by a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant.

Thanks to the grant, St. Cloud State will offer a total of 45 scholarships to students who pursue degrees in 4+1 Information Assurance, Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering.

The next application window is spring 2016. Apply through Huskies Scholarships.

Our 2015 Computing and Engineering Scholarship Program scholars are:

Lamya Ait Sadiq, Brooklyn Park, Mechanical Engineering

Jose Araujo Meza, Oakdale, Computer Engineering

Zachary Babcock, Minneapolis, Information Systems

Olabisi Ewumi, Blaine, Information Assurance

Steven Henningsgard, St. Cloud, Computer Engineering

Dustin Johnson, Elk River, Computer Science

The Computing and Engineering Scholarship Program (CESP) is funded by $614,000 grant from NSF, the top federal agency supporting non-medical science and engineering research and education. The grant was secured by Susathana Herath, professor of information systems; Jayantha Herath, professor of computer science; and Mahbub Hossain, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering.

Forty-five students will earn scholarships, thanks to a National Science Foundation grant.

The CESP grant builds on the success of a previous S-STEM project and benefits St. Cloud State’s science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programs. In 2012, St. Cloud State earned a $600,000 NSF grant for S-STEM scholarships.

Among the CESP collaborators are Dennis Guster, professor of information systems; Robert C. Johnson, professor of ethnic studies; and Ben Baliga, professor of mechanical and manufacturing engineering.

CESP Scholars are assigned a faculty mentor, a graduate assistant and senior student support person.
