The St. Cloud State University Veterans Resource Center (VRC) recognized active student veterans and supporters of student veterans at its annual awards reception May 4.

The campus and community is doing great work to support student veterans. Many the Veterans Resource Center seeks help from only ask how they can help, said Zac Mangas, Veterans Resource Center director.
“We are acknowledging several of these students, staff/faculty and community members who have gone above and beyond this year to help support our military-connected community,” he said.

The Student Veteran Organization presented Disabled American Veteran (DAV) members Jim Fontaine, Alicia Volkmuth and LeRoy Kieke with plaques for their assistance with the Veterans’ Appreciation Picnic and donations to the Student Veterans Emergency Relief Fund.
The center also recognized community members who have contributed to the center and student veterans this year including:
- Shari Mangas and Brian Dean of True Strides for their work on the Peace Warrior Project, assisting with the fall veterans orientation and financial contributions.
- Kathy and Jim Dempsey – The Bait Den and St. Cloud State employees – for their donations to Heroes on the Water for St. Cloud State student veterans to attend the three-day guided fishing service up north.
- Dutch Maid Bakery for its contributions of weekly baked goods to the VRC.
In addition to these recognitions, the VRC acknowledged several other student veterans and St. Cloud State faculty, staff and administrators for their support for student veterans.
