The St. Cloud State University Global Education and Engagement Conference is 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19 at the Holiday Inn Conference Center, 75-37th Ave. S., St. Cloud.
The conference will feature keynote speaker David Smith, leader of Forage Center for Peacebuilding and Humanitarian Education Inc., a non-profit that offers experiential learning opportunities for students and professionals.

Registration for the conference is closed, but pre-conference activities 3-4 p.m. Nov. 18, in the Atwood Memorial Center Alumni Room, are free and open to the public.
At the pre-conference event, Smith will speak about opportunities for students to consider career pathways that promote peacebuilding and conflict resolution.
At the conference on Nov. 19, Smith will explore the role that peacebuilding can play in shaping a civically-engaged society and offer approaches that can be used with students to build capacity for them to become participatory global citizens. He will also lead a workshop on peacebuilding skills and strategies that can be applied to a range of courses.
Smith is the author of “Peace Jobs: A Student’s Guide to Starting a Career Working for Peace” and editor of “Peacebuilding in Community Colleges: A Teaching Resource.”
The Nov. 18 conference will also feature a community panel of: Karin Blythe, refugee resettlement supervisor for Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota; Lori Ellering, a lieutenant with the St. Cloud Police Department; Mahado Ali, a community health worker with Centra Care; and Emmanuel Oppong, St. Cloud coordinator of community engagement.
The conference is sponsored by the Minnesota State Education for Global Learning Consortium, the St. Cloud State Center for Continuing Studies, St. Cloud State Multicultural Student Services, the Center for Holocaust and Genocide Education and UNESCO Student Club.
