Mille Lacs Messenger — Cory Zimpel ’99 may have moved from the area after graduating from Isle High School in 1996, but the time spent living in the small town would shape much of his future. Local teachers, friends and family all played a role in bringing Cory to where he is now.
Born in Mora to Dwayne and Kathy Zimpel, Cory grew up in McGrath. He attended school there through the second grade. When McGrath School closed, he began attending Nyquist Elementary School in Isle.

In the summer of ’96, Cory set out for college and would come home over the summers. He graduated from St. Cloud State University with an industrial technology degree with an emphasis in communication before obtaining a master’s degree related to education from Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall.
