St. Cloud Times — It started as a persistent itching in her feet that kept her awake at night and then was misdiagnosed as auto-immune hepatitis and liver damage from what doctors suspected was alcohol and drug abuse.
But Bel Kambach’s body was in much worse shape and not because of bad lifestyle choices.
Three years after her initial diagnosis, she learned what was causing the itching and the liver tests that were off the charts. The assistant professor of travel and tourism at St. Cloud State University has been battling primary biliary cholangitis for the last seven years, a disorder that is ravaging her body and requires a transplant or she’ll die.
