Author presents on the White Rose, modern day heroes

Speaking Truth to Power talk flyerIn 1942 a group of students rose up to resist the Nazis at the University of Munich. In 1943, Hans and Sophie Scholl were the first two members of the group arrested and executed for their resistance.

Author Jud Newborn recounts their story in “Speaking Truth to Power.” He will speak about their resistance effort at 7 p.m. Jan. 24 in Ritsche Auditorium in Stewart Hall. The presentation is free to attend.

The White Rose was a non-violent resistance group in Nazi Germany that distributed leaflets urging people to resist Nazi rule. Newborn sees reflections of the White Rose story in today’s most compelling current events and global issues.

He will present an array of “White Rosers” who are today risking themselves for freedom and our shared humanity.

The talk is presented by the St. Cloud State University Center for Holocaust and Genocide Education and the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas.

A book signing will follow the presentation.
