A veteran earning his degree in manufacturing engineering technology will address graduates at fall semester graduation exercises.
About 525 undergraduate students and graduate students are expected to participate in Commencement at 1 p.m. Dec. 20 in Halenbeck Hall.
They are among the more than 900 students from 30 countries and 16 U.S. states earning degrees fall semester. The degree earners include 739 undergraduate students, 184 graduate students and 10 doctoral students.
Honors include 82 undergraduates earning Summa Cum Laude, 112 earning Magna Cum Laude and 113 earning Cum Laude cords.
The student speaker, Brandon Askin, is from St. Cloud where he lives with his fiancée and three sons. He graduated from Sauk Rapids High School and served in the military.
Askin served as president of the Student Veteran Association and is graduating with a degree in manufacturing engineering technology.

Conferring degrees will be President Robby Wacker. Presenting the graduating class are Provost Dan Gregory and the deans of the schools and colleges that comprise St. Cloud State.

The String Orchestra will perform music including Samuel Ward’s “America the Beautiful” and Felix Mendelssohn’s “Sinfonia No. 2 in D Major, MVT. 1”. Conducting the String Orchestra is Marion Judish, professor of music.
Parking will be free Dec. 21 in campus parking lots and the 4th Avenue Parking Ramp.
Graduates, their guests, faculty and staff are encouraged to use the free St. Cloud State Metro Bus shuttle. Street parking is available, as posted.
At St. Cloud State an A average corresponds to a 4.0 grade-point average.
Undergraduate honors are:
Gold tassel | Summa cum laude (with highest honor) = 3.75 to 4.00
Silver tassel | Magna cum laude (with great honor) = 3.50 to 3.74
Red tassel | Cum laude (with honor) = 3.25 to 3.49
