Pound adapted all her teaching materials for the Introductory Geology course for earth science majors in Fall 2016.

In her presentation Pound explored how she modified lectures and student group work to include more descriptive elements, modified labs to include tactile maps with braille descriptors and prepared exams earlier to allow her student to complete them in the Student Accessibility Services office.

After the course was over, Pound evaluated her classroom data and found that the adaptations impacted all of her students with overall average course grades improving by 3-11 percentage points.

Also presenting at the conference was Earth Sciences major Ashia Lujano, Pound’s advisee who had completed a Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) at Biosphere 2 during the summer and presented her research in a poster session.
