St. Cloud State University student Mya Fryckman has received a leadership award from the Foundation of the Upper Midwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
Fryckman has been named the 2026 College Student AV All Star, which honors behind-the-scenes production personnel. Fryckman will receive recognition at the annual Student Production Awards ceremony this April.
“Mya doesn’t just run productions; she elevates them,” said Derrick Silvestri, TV studio manager and UTVS advisor. “She guides the daily operations and long-term vision of the campus station, balancing creativity with technical precision and strong team leadership.”

Fryckman has been the station manager for UTVS Television the past two years and has been a broadcast student engineer since 2022. She has led the UTVS team in various ways, including directing Division I hockey broadcasts on CW Twin Cities. Fryckman has also produced large scale events such as KVSC Trivia Weekend for TV broadcast simulcasting and directed the yearly TEDxStCloud talks.
“She’s led everything from live studio shows to multi-day coverage,” Silvestri added. “She calls the shots, manages the crew, coordinates talent and ensures every broadcast meets professional standards.”
UTVS and its students have been nominated for various other awards in recent months.
Fryckman and Savannah Reinke earned recognition from the national BEA Festival of Media Arts for their production role in TEDxStCloud, while UTVS Sports Director Noah Grant received an award of excellence for his play-by-play submission of SCSU Women’s Hockey vs. the University of Minnesota.
UTVS also had 15 award nominations across 12 categories in the annual Upper Midwest Student Production Awards. Visit the UTVS website for more details on the award-winning station.
