St. Cloud Times — While Mike Lambrecht was playing football at Watertown-Mayer High School, he was told that he wasn’t good enough to play at the collegiate level.
He proved them wrong. In fact, he even went a level higher.
Lambrecht played football at St. Cloud State University from 1981-1985. He played fullback, linebacker, defensive end, defensive tackle and nose guard during his time with the Huskies.
Lambrecht ranks in the top 15 in three career categories at SCSU. He ranks 15th in career tackles (235), eighth in tackles for loss (28.5) and eighth in quarterback sacks (14). In 1984 and 1985, he was a two-time All-North Central Conference player, an Omaha World-Herald Certificate of Merit honoree and also was named the Huskies’ Outstanding Defensive Lineman and the SCSU Lifter of the Year. In 1985, he was the NCC’s Most Valuable Defensive Lineman, was named a Kodak All-American and was the St. Paul Dispatch and Pioneer Press MVP.
For his efforts throughout his career, Lambrecht was one of eight people who were inducted into the SCSU Athletic Hall of Fame and who were honored at halftime of the SCSU vs. Minnesota-Crookston game Saturday at Husky Stadium.
