The six-week active initiative is designed to engage students, faculty and staff on fitness and healthy living.
In each week of the program, participants can earn points for daily exercise as well as bonus points for doing an exercise of the day or weekly challenges based around nutrition, environmentalism and mindfulness.

The program is offering special Qigong, yoga and information sessions on healthy eating as well as special group exercises each Friday to get participants moving down in the Halenbeck Hall field house and outdoors with Outdoor Endeavor-led snowshoeing and fat tire bike adventures.
When they’re not coming together for exercise and education, participants are staying connected through a special Facebook page where they can share recipes, quotes, exercises and more.
The goal of this initiative is to motivate and engage student and employees to make a shift to healthy choices while enjoying the journey and working together, said Christina Haukos, coordinator of fitness and special programs.
“The participants are so engaged,” Haukos said. “Many have commented on how they like the personal connection rather than an app. They feel a part of something.”
Workplace wellness programs have been proven to create savings in medical costs, absenteeism, worker’s compensation claims and instances of mind-fog while at work, she said.
“There are monumental health issues affecting our workplace,” Haukos said. “Many studies document the intangible advantages of a wellness program. … SCSU on the Move was created to fight inactivity and to create a healthy culture on campus while building a stronger connection to the university by being more involved on campus.”
The initiative is supported by the Coke Health and Wellness Initiative.
