Theatre faculty member Carol Cooley and Community Anti-Racism Education Initiative (CARE) organizer Debra Leigh are presenting “Flying Solo: Hope, Faith Courage, Parable” a set of back-to-back solo shows during the 2016 Minnesota Fringe Festival Aug. 4-14 in Minneapolis.
The Fringe Festival is an annual performing arts festival in the Twin Cities. More than 1,000 artists present work during the festival in every discipline and genre. Cooley and Leigh’s performance address themes of patriotism and religion and the power of truth.

Cooley’s “A Chronicle from ‘The Absolute at Large’” is a solo satire that uses toy theatre, science fiction and relativism to question absolutism in its many forms.
Leigh’s “Saving Superman” follows an African-American woman who meets a man on a street corner dressed as her childhood superhero, but whose Confederate flag reveals his true intentions and daunting ideas about patriotism.
Leigh is the lead organizer of CARE, which seeks to build an anti-racist St. Cloud State and community.
Cooley Costume Studio director at St. Cloud State University. She is a puppeteer who has designed and created puppets and costumes for a number of productions. She frequently designs and directs at St. Cloud State.
