St. Cloud Times — Close your eyes during a Powderfinger concert and you hear Neil Young.
Open them and you see Mark Hasbrouck ’07.
In this musical incarnation, he sounds more like Neil Young than Neil Young does — the voice, the guitar, the crackling edginess.
“I don’t really try to,” Hasbrouck said. “I think that’s part of the reason it works, because I just happen to have one of those (voices). It’s kinda high-pitched, and it kinda cuts.”

Inspired variety has been the hallmark of Hasbrouck’s musical career since he arrived at St. Cloud State University in 1982.
“He has explored so much music, and had so much of his life put into it and so much focus,” said Valenty, currently KVSC’s assistant music director. “He’s resonated on many different levels.”
