Thirty-eight selected supervisors and managers of Mille Lacs Corporate Ventures and members of Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe are the first cohort to complete the Introduction to Business Leadership project.
The project lays a strong business groundwork for participants and helps them continue to grow their professional careers.
The active learning program focuses on fundamental competencies revolving around oral, written and interpersonal skills, conflict management strategies, customer service and strategies to manage human capital.
“The business acumen modules address an introduction to basic business law and problem solving techniques,” said Tammy Anhalt-Warner, assistant director of Corporate Education and Outreach. “We’ve also included a module on casino management and focus heavily on financial management, revenue generation and operations management.”
The program also teaches a leading people module which addresses team building and change management, she said.
At the end of the project, a professional development plan is developed to assist each participant by improving their knowledge and performance in the identified competency areas.
St. Cloud State and Mille Lacs Corporate Ventures are in discussions about creating an enhanced level of training to address the complexities of legal consequences and financial management.
The project is hosted by the Center for Continuing Studies and the Herberger Business School at St. Cloud State.
A second cohort for the introductory course is planned for later this year.
