St. Cloud Times — Ayan Omar ’13 has taken teaching beyond her Technical High School language arts classroom.
The Somali-American woman uses her passion for writing and storytelling to create greater understanding of Islam and Somali culture.
She has written for national publications including the Washington Post. She also has spoken in towns such as Kimball and Little Falls. Whether her audience is large or small, her goal is to make the world a better place.
Because of her work, Omar was named a ChangeMaker, a title that comes with an award and cash gift presented by St. Cloud Federal Credit Union.
For the second year, Times Media is selecting ChangeMakers from reader nominations and telling their stories in coordination with the credit union. Her award was the fifth in a series of six awards this year recognizing selfless volunteers.
Omar, 29, holds a bachelor’s degree in communication arts and literature.
