Central Minnesota’s premier breast cancer fundraiser is poised to deliver another six-figure gift to American Cancer Society research and programs.
Nearly 70 teams of walkers and individuals perambulated in pink for three miles through the leafy St. Cloud State campus Oct. 14.

Efforts by Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Central Minnesota walkers — combined with one-off events and the Real Men Wear Pink campaign — could combine to raise more than $100,000.
Since 2009, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Central Minnesota has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for breast cancer research and programs.
In 2016, the walk at St. Cloud State raised $106,000. The related Real Men Wear Pink effort earned another $18,500.
At publication time, Making Strides Central Minnesota had raised $52,917 toward its $100,000 goal. Real Men Wear Pink, which includes Bob Motzko ’89, had raised $26,691 — a total that exceeds the $25,000 goal set for the 14 local leaders.
Motzko’s $9,850 personal total could mushroom when his men’s Huskies Hockey team auctions its pink game jerseys during the 7:07 p.m. Oct. 14 game against University of Alaska Fairbanks.
At the game, fans donating $5 or more to breast cancer research will receive a Huskies Fight Cancer Rally Towel, courtesy of North Risk Partners, Apollo Division.
Making Strides accepts donations toward its goals through year’s end.
