Troy Nellis has been named the Director of Alumni Engagement at St. Cloud State University. Nellis officially started in his role on March 1.
Nellis has enjoyed a 24-year career in higher education, celebrating his 20th year with Minnesota State in 2023. His background includes working in both student and academic affairs within academic advising, career services, experiential learning, admissions, human resources, alumni relations and advancement work. He was also an adjunct Business faculty for six years teaching Marketing, Management and Introduction Business courses.
Nellis began his career working in radio and TV as a news director, DJ and roving sports reporter before embracing another career change to manage two greenhouses and a hardware store before returning to his love of higher education. He has a son, Alex, who is employed at the University of Iowa in Iowa City as an academic advisor.
Nellis very active in the community and has been a Rotarian for 16 years. He and his son Alex are passionate fishermen and hunters and love to spend time at their cabin near Orr, Minnesota. Nellis is also a very active gardener, where he tends to his ¾-acre vegetable and flower gardens. He has lived in the St. Cloud community since 2002 and is thrilled with his new home at SCSU.
