St. Cloud Times — I’ve lived in the St. Cloud area most of my life. So of course, I know what the Beaver Islands are.
But, aside from the view I get of them daily while crossing the University Bridge heading to and from my home in southeast St. Cloud, I really didn’t know a whole lot about them.
And when they came up at a vision session I attended Thursday night at River’s Edge Convention Center, I got curious.

Some of the islands are owned by St. Cloud State University. The school (when it was known as St. Cloud Teacher’s College) purchased the title to the islands in 1934. Former St. Cloud State Vice President of Finance and Administration Steve Ludwig said from the records he’s viewed over the years, his understanding is the school continues to own the majority of them.
