Sarah Bettendorf turned in her apron on the Food Network show “Worst Cooks in America.” The 33-year-old Apollo High School and St. Cloud State University graduate was one of the final four contestants on the sixth season of the reality cooking show that started with 14 contestants.
Twice a week, the women of the St. Cloud State University men’s hockey cheer team work into the night to perfect their routine. From 9-11 p.m., the squad of 13 owns the primary rink at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. The sound of blades on ice is drowned out by the coach who, like a metronome, counts a beat of eight as the woman flip, toss and glide across the open ice.
New post-recession realities means St. Cloud State University has to rethink how it operates. Declining enrollment, empty buildings and budget deficits have the university looking for ways to strengthen and grow in the future. The university hopes that through innovation it will better serve changing student demands and put itself in a healthier financial situation.
Chukwunyere Ugochukwu, an associate professor of planning and community development at St. Cloud State University, said with Central Minnesota’s changing demographics, it’s not surprising to see more stores that focus on a particular culture or geographical region.
