KVSC — A new event on the St. Cloud State University campus uplifts the voices of women student-athletes. SCSU Women’s Center hosted the first “Playing for Her” event from 6-7:30 p.m. Jan. 30 in Atwood Glacier Room.

The event featured a diverse panel of SCSU women student-athletes and highlighted the importance of equality, equity and justice within women’s sports. According to event facilitator Kara Cowell, they created the event to bring women athletes together and give them a platform to share their experiences.

KNSI — An event is set for next month to get young women interested and excited in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. It’s called Tech Savvy, and it’s coming up on Saturday, February 24th, at St. Cloud State University.

The day long conference is for girls in grades five through eight and is organized by the American Association of University Women with SCSU’s College of Science and Engineering. Attendees will take part in four STEM workshops throughout the day.

THE RINK LIVE — St. Cloud State wing Joe Molenaar is one of 18 nominees for the Hockey Humanaitarian Aaward.

The award, which is celebrating its 29th season, is presented to college hockey’s top citizen, an athlete who makes significant contributions not only to his/her team, but also to the community at large through leadership in volunteerism.

ST. CLOUD LIVE — For Paula U’Ren’s dedication to the advancement of women’s sports, she has been honored with the Breaking Barriers Award by the National Girls and Women’s in Sports Day — Minnesota.

The Breaking Barriers award is given to those who have successfully torn down gender and Title IX barriers to provide opportunities in sports for girls and women of all races, ages and levels of ability.

ST. CLOUD TIMES — Nolan Newberg graduated from St. Cloud State University in 2022 after growing up in the same Shoreview neighborhood as StrictlyBBall co-creator Joe Doerrer.

The pair have captured a huge online audience and their company just hired its first employee. StrictlyBBall videos routinely generate tens of thousands of likes on TikTok and other social media platforms where they cover amateur, professional and high school sports.
