Three research works of COSE students published, one wins “Best Paper” award

St. Cloud State University Assistant Professor of Cybersecurity Dr. Akalanka Mailewa took three students, Anushka Hewarathna, Roger Massmann and Sharveen Paramiswaran, to the Midwest Instruction and Computing Symposium (MICS) 2023 conference in April.

The three SCSU students each represented their group papers that were accepted and published by MICS, which annually holds a regional conference dedicated to providing higher education participants an educational experience focused on sharing creative thinking about computer-related issues.

SCSU selected to receive the IIE American Passport Project grant

St. Cloud State University has been selected by the Institute of International Education (IIE) to receive an IIE American Passport Project grant that will enable up to 25 SCSU students to obtain a U.S. passport and support their study abroad journeys.

SCSU is one of 48 institutions awarded this opportunity, which will help up to 1,200 Pell-eligible, U.S. students obtain their U.S. passports and start their study abroad journey.

UTVS News Director earns Ulysses Carlini Media Scholarship

St. Cloud State University’s Lilly Marohn recently won a regional scholarship at the Student Production Awards – National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Upper Midwest Foundation.

The Mass Communications and Journalism major was awarded the Ulysses Carlini Media Scholarship, receiving $1,500 for tuition and books for the fall semester.

SCSU students recognized during 57th annual Juried Student Exhibition reception

St. Cloud State University students were honored and recognized during an awards ceremony in the Kiehle Gallery in the Kiehle Visual Arts Center on April 18 to kick off the 57th annual Juried Student Exhibition.

The exhibition awards ceremony opened up the reception, with faculty announcing the Juror’s Choice Awards, the College of Liberal Arts Dean’s Purchase Awards and Dean’s Recognition Awards. To conclude the reception, scholarship winners were announced for students to use towards the 2023-24 academic school year.

57th annual Juried Student Exhibition opens at SCSU

The 57th annual Juried Student Exhibition opened with a reception on April 18 in the Kiehle Gallery in the Kiehle Visual Arts Center at St. Cloud State University.

The exhibition will be on display through April 28 featuring a range of 35 pieces by 33 School of the Arts student artists selected from over 80 submissions.

SCSU students receive 2023 Excellence in Leadership Awards

A group of St. Cloud State University students across a variety of academic programs have been recognized this spring for their outstanding leadership.

On April 16, SCSU held the 35th Annual Excellence in Leadership Banquet honoring 25 students who have made a significant impact at SCSU within the community. Applications were evaluated by a team of faculty and staff judges from across campus.

SCSU students claim top broadcast and journalism honors

St. Cloud State Mass Communications students working for Husky Productions and UTVS earned multiple top honors from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association and the Society of Professional Journalists in April.

SCSU took home a total of 13 awards from the three organizations.

Kayla Stielow ’14 ’22 earns 2022 SCSU Distinguished Thesis Award

St. Cloud State alumna Kayla Stielow ’22 was recently announced as the 2022 St. Cloud State University Distinguished Thesis Award recipient for her work on Huskies Go to War: St. Cloud State During the World War II Era.

Stielow’s thesis highlighted the student experience at SCSU during World War II. In addition to presenting historical research and analysis of campus community actions and reactions, she also created a walking tour of significant places on campus during the war.

SCSU Speech & Debate students win national championship in Team Parliamentary Debate

The St. Cloud State Speech & Debate team captured a national championship to go along with other awards at the 2023 National Online Forensics (NOF) National Speech & Debate Championship Tournament on March 23-26. NOF National Championship is a comprehensive, online, culminating, national forensics tournament.

SCSU claimed the national crown in Team Parliamentary Debate in a team comprised of El Julius and Nirman Karki, while five other SCSU students brought home awards at Nationals:
