St. Cloud State professors Dr. Mike Dando and Dr. Melissa Hanzsek-Brill earned Minnesota State’s highest honors for educators, the Educator of the Year Award. These awards are bestowed upon faculty to acknowledge and reward exceptional professional accomplishment and to encourage ongoing excellence in teaching.
St. Cloud State University has been recognized for its honorable commitment to engaged, experiential education by Colleges of Distinction, a one-of-a-kind guide for college-bound students. In August, Nic Katona was appointed Vice President for Advancement and Alumni Engagement at St. Cloud State, a position previously held by Matt Andrew before his retirement last June.

St. Cloud State University is launching into Esports in a big way this fall with its first competitive Rocket League team. Esports is a combination of video games and competition with global appeal. Viewership of Esports tournaments rivals that of traditional sporting events and the field is expanding to generate new professions in shoutcasting, event and team management, and Esports therapy.

Ben Pluimer ’04, Mass Communications graduate, was part of the creative team at Nickelodeon that won a 2021 Emmy for the Outstanding Playoff Coverage category for the network’s alternative coverage of the NFL Wild Card game between the Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints in January 2021.
Noah Czech ’06 has been a stormwater compliance specialist with the city of St. Cloud since 2007. For the past few years, he’s been part of a team working to clean up Lake George.
