Forum – It was the harsh reality dropped on him by his hockey coaches at St. Cloud State that made Moorhead boys hockey coach Jon Ammerman ’11 want to become like them. After Ammerman’s sophomore season with the Huskies, he was told he was going to need to find other ways to contribute to the team if he wanted to stay on it.

Ammerman, 28, never imagined he’d be back at Moorhead before the age of 30. The plan after college was to find a teaching job anywhere and he found that in Windom, Minn. What he didn’t expect to find was a varsity boys hockey head coaching job.

Even now, with Ammerman in his third season coaching his high school team at Moorhead, it hasn’t hit him. The Spuds are two wins away from that reality hitting Ammerman.
