St. Cloud State President Killed in Brooklyn Center Crash

KSTP – St. Cloud State University President Earl Potter III was killed Monday in a crash on his way to a meeting in the Twin Cities, the chancellor of the Minnesota State College and University System Steven Rosenstone said.

The crash happened about 5:36 p.m. on Interstate 694 in Brooklyn Center, the Minnesota State Patrol said.

The patrol said Potter was alone driving east in a sport utility vehicle when it went off the road and hit a guardrail. The SUV overcorrected into the center lane and rolled, coming to a stop against the cable barriers.

The 69-year-old Potter had been the president of the Minnesota State College and University System’s largest school since 2007. He had recently received a three-year contract extension.
