“Will was a rising star in the business to business sales for the cell phone and consumer electronics industry. He was constantly being recruited, often by his own customers, because they appreciated the way he overcame their obstacles and helped them solve their problems,” said Carl Spencer, general manager of Spence Cabinetry. “Ultimately, after ten years of his personal success, we had to recruit him very heavily to entice him to come onboard our company.”
Since joining the company, Will Spencer has increased productivity and profits by more than 50 percent, employees’ wages have increased and employee bonus checks have more than doubled.
One of Spencer’s more popular changes to the company has been altering the work schedule to nine hours a day Monday-Friday, and four hours on Friday, giving employees a two and one-half day weekend.
“It’s unusual to find anyone in our industry who can truly master the constant flow of our lean manufacturing system at all, much less one who can master it from a cold start in less than a year,” Carl Spencer said. “Will is truly unique to our industry.”
Spencer accepted the award at the International Woodworking Fair, the largest woodworking technology trade show in North America, in Atlanta, Georgia in September.
