Edmonton Journal — Matt Hendricks ’02 got his hockey education from the school of hard knocks because he didn’t play his first NHL game until his late 20s after banging around in the minors for years and years.
But Saturday night he wore the look of a very satisfied man playing his 500th game.
“My first NHL game didn’t come until I was 27 and now I’m 35 … getting to 500 games, it’s a feather in my cap, for sure,” said the Edmonton Oilers’ forward who was on the fourth line against Calgary Flames.

Hendricks was a star at St. Cloud State, also a winger who put up some numbers in his 301 minor-league games (247 AHL in Lowell, Rochester, Providence, Hershey and Lake Erie and 54 ECHL in south Florida).
