Students head to internship in China

Kaushalya Nissanka, Mack Zukowski and Alex Slagle sit at desks
Kaushalya Nissanka, left, originally planned to go but can no longer make the trip, Mack Zukowski and Alex Slagle are among students who will be interning at Branson Ultrasonics in Shanghai this summer.

Four students will be spending their summer interning with Branson Ultrasonics in Shanghai, China.

During the eight-week internship the students will spend one week exploring Shanghai and then seven weeks working at Branson.

While there aren’t many study abroad programs available with engineering coursework, this internship allows students to have that cultural experience while also working toward their degree and gaining experience, said Professor Kenneth Miller.

Mack Zukowski, will work with ultrasonic tooling. He has never been to Asia and is looking forward to exploring the culture. Zukowski has worked with CNC machines in the past and believes an internship experience working with the machines will be helpful for future job placement.

Alex Slagle, a computer science major, will work with computer programming. He’s looking forward to learning more about Chinese culture and programming and career options in the field.

Also interning with Branson this summer are Jake Krezowski, a mechanical engineering student, and Justin Onyenemezu, a computer engineering student.

Branson designs, develops and manufactures CNC ultrasonic welding equipment used for joining plastic parts. It is part of Emerson Industrial Automation.
