Minneapolis Star Tribune — You might not notice Burnsville native Jack Ahcan walking around the St. Cloud State campus. He is unassuming in stature to say the least, standing 5 feet 8 and weighing 185 pounds soaking wet.
He knows he isn’t a household name. That said, he has been something of a star on campus over the past two weeks. And for good reason.
Ahcan was a member of the USA Junior National team that won the gold medal at this year’s International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championships. Team USA beat Canada 5-4 in a shootout on Jan. 5 to claim the prize.
“It has been a whirlwind,” Ahcan said. “I get back to St. Cloud State and my phone is going crazy. I’ve been doing a bunch of interviews and stuff like that. It has been an amazing experience.”
His 15 minutes of fame continued Tuesday night at the Xcel Energy Center as he delivered the “Let’s Play Hockey” call before the Wild took on the New Jersey Devils.
