Fergus Falls Journal — Stepping outside, Dave Ellis ’73 feels at home surrounded by nature. No matter the season, he finds the environment interesting and beautiful.
It’s no surprise that Ellis’s whole life has revolved around the great outdoors. He grew up on a farm near Evansville, and as a child he felt envious of his town counterparts. Looking back, Ellis smiles as he recalls many memories of the place he grew up — the country.
“Lessons learned on a farm are life lessons,” he said.
Ellis came to Fergus Falls for a few more lessons as he attended Fergus Falls Community College. From there he went to St. Cloud State. In 1973 he moved to Fergus Falls, and here he has been ever since.
Ellis never stopped learning and giving lessons. He taught upper elementary students in the Fergus Falls School system for 43 years. The best of these years, he said, was the year he helped introduce the prairie science class.
The class stemmed from noticing his students perform better around the same time as field trips.
