Lexington Clipper-Herald — St. Cloud State University will induct a group of six former student-athletes, one coach and one Distinguished Service Award winner into the St. Cloud State University Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday, Sept. 23.
The 2017 inductees will include Noel Martin, who is currently a resident of Becker, Minn. Martin’s hometown is Clay Center, Kan. He went on to play football at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and later coached high school football in Lexington, Neb. and the Kansas City area (Center High School and Rosedale High School). He went to coach in the semi-pro ranks with the Omaha Mustangs and later coached at the University of Nebraska-Omaha before his move to SCSU in 1983.
In 16 seasons with the SCSU football program, Martin set a school record for most wins as a football coach with 91. He led the Huskies as they moved into the always-rugged North Central Conference, which was widely recognized as the nation’s top NCAA Division II football conference during the 1980s and 1990s.
