ST. CLOUD TIMES — A St. Cloud State University biology professor is headed to Hawaii after being granted the school’s top scholarly grant.
Heiko L. Schoenfuss has been named the 2018 winner of the Hellervik Prize, an annual award that recognizes a St. Cloud State University faculty member for research or scholarly activity on issues of importance to the educational community and society as a whole.
As director of the Aquatic Toxicology Lab, Schoenfuss has earned national attention for documenting how exposure to contaminants affects fish, according to the university. Among the contaminants he and his colleagues have studied are pharmaceuticals that are sometimes flushed down toilets, like antidepressants and hormone-therapy medications.
