During my first nine months in St. Cloud, I have been an avid participant in and fan of our Huskies Athletics community. All of our Huskies teams are an important part of the pride we share in St. Cloud State University.

As you know, our men’s hockey season ended sooner than expected last weekend. The outcome was heartbreaking and a reminder of how unpredictable sports are and how the best team can be beaten on any given day. As educators, however, St. Cloud State prepares our students for life in the 21st Century. We ask our students every day, regardless of circumstance, to bring their best selves. Yet, we know failure and disappointment are part of that preparation. And so is resilience and self-improvement.
Our team had an incredible year beginning with an undefeated record at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. We clinched the NCHC regular season championship, earned a record-number of all-conference honors, recognized Jimmy Schuldt as NCHC Player of the Year and Hobey Baker Hat Trick finalist, and cheered for Brett Larson as NCHC Coach of the Year. And with the season’s end, we celebrate that our program has launched many players into their NHL dreams. Day-in and day-out the team demonstrated character, commitment, and service to one another and to our extended Huskies Family. I could not be more proud of this team and what it represents.
Our men’s Huskies Hockey is and will remain a premier program in the country and expects to contend for national championships each year; that commitment has not changed.
Thank you for your passion and for the support you provide our student-athletes and team. Your support is a major part of our success. We look forward to welcoming you back in October for another great year!
GO HUSKIES!!
