Nathan Bergan
Senior Airman, Air Force Reservr
St. Charles, Minn.
After returning from my deployment in Qatar, my wife, Kendra Bergan, and I decided we wanted to attend college.
We decided to join St. Cloud State for a few reasons. SCSU would offer elective credits for my military training, they had friendly admissions staff, we liked the size of the school and they offered our intended majors.
I decided to go for a Computer Engineering major to help my family and to hopefully someday have a job as a software developer.
The scholarship I received was a very big help and I am extremely grateful for it. I used it to help with buying books, and towards my meal plan and tuition. I’m grateful to all St. Cloud State alumni who support scholarships. I couldn’t be here without it.

I can honestly say that without the Recovery Community I don’t think I would’ve graduated this spring because I strongly believe I
would have relapsed; causing me to go to prison or worse. There were ups and downs but those of us who made it through from beginning to end made lifelong bonds and came out stronger. Having people hold one another accountable is a great asset especially in a college environment where temptation is at the helm.
The Recovery Community will always be a part of who I am. It gave me the confidence I needed to be comfortable in my own skin. I pray that there’s an outbreak across the world filled with recovery communities because it was life changing.
