St. Cloud Times — Sometimes when an athlete’s dad is their youth sports coach, they get a chance to do some experimenting.
For instance, when St. Cloud State’s Beau Fandel was playing youth baseball, he got a chance to play many positions.
“My dad would have me mess around at every position, so I’d catch when I was younger, play third and short,” Fandel said. “When I got to high school, I started catching a little more.”
His dad, Russ, is pretty well known in the baseball circles in St. Cloud. He was a pitcher for St. Cloud Tech and St. Cloud State (1987-91) and then pitched on some very good Beaudreau’s Bar Saints amateur baseball teams.
