St. Cloud Times – The land — which in the late 19th and early 20th centuries was home to a granite-quarrying business — has long been owned by St. Cloud State University. And it is George Friedrich who is credited with persuading the college to purchase the parcel.
But the city and the Minnesota State Colleges and University System recently agreed to a land swap in which the city traded three pieces of land with St. Cloud State in exchange for the park.
George Friedrich — the former St. Cloud State University (then St. Cloud Teachers College) biology professor for whom the land was formally named in 1951.
