Brainerd Dispatch — Just short of two years following the death of prominent Pine River archaeologist Douglas Birk, St. Cloud State University is immortalizing and continuing his work with the Feb. 15 dedication of the Douglas A. Birk collection at SCSU.
Birk’s partner, Lynda Weiss, donated Birk’s collection of research materials, personal notes, maps and documents from his own personal projects. Rob Mann, SCSU associate professor of anthropology, said there are more than 18 book cases of research material alone, accounting for likely 4,500 tomes Birk accumulated through his decades of research. His original, personal documents are more numerous.
