St. Cloud Times — Jashmin Nakarmi has felt helpless in the days since a 7.8-magnitude earthquake killed 5,000 people in her home country.
“It’s been really frustrating being here, while my parents are there,” the St. Cloud State University sophomore said. “They’re on the ground. They have a food scarcity, a water scarcity. They don’t have a place to go.”
Helping Nepal International, a student group at SCSU, collected $1,988 in donations on Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday, the group hosted an art show and silent auction at Atwood Memorial Center. Paintings, drawings and photographs, mostly by Nepali students, drew bids as high as $350.
