SCSU Speech & Debate students win national championship in Team Parliamentary Debate

The St. Cloud State Speech & Debate team captured a national championship to go along with other awards at the 2023 National Online Forensics (NOF) National Speech & Debate Championship Tournament on March 23-26. NOF National Championship is a comprehensive, online, culminating, national forensics tournament.

SCSU claimed the national crown in Team Parliamentary Debate in a team comprised of El Julius and Nirman Karki, while five other SCSU students brought home awards at Nationals:

St. Cloud State University has once again been nationally recognized by the Broadcast Education Association for being one of the top broadcast schools in the country based on the creative achievements of students.

COSE students have research article published in international journal

In early March, two St. Cloud State students from the College of Science and Engineering (COSE) had their research article published in an international, scientific, peer-reviewed journal.

Software Engineering student Faizi Fifita and Data Science and Mathematics student Jordan Smith had their research article titled “Machine Learning-Based Identifications of COVID-19 Fake News Using Biomedical Information Extraction”, published in Big Data and Cognitive Computing. This research article belongs to the journal’s collection: Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence for Health Applications on Social Networks.

St. Cloud State University faculty continue to inspire students inside and outside of the classroom.

On March 27, 10 SCSU faculty were recognized during a reception and recognition event for being part of the first cohort to complete courses from the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE) and the American Council on Education, earning higher education’s only nationally recognized teaching credential.

A St. Cloud State University program recently received regional recognition by earning a 2023 NODA Region V Innovation in Retention Award due to its unique approach to a challenging situation or a specific campus need.

SCSU’s Husky Stories program was one of two Region V Innovation Award winners awarded by NODA, which enhances and elevates orientation, transition and retention practices in higher education that cultivate the professional development and education of student leaders, graduate students, practitioners and scholars.

St. Cloud State University students took center stage at the Paramount Center for the Arts in St. Cloud on March 21 for a presentation of Journey Across the World 2023.

The event, presented by SCSU and the City of St. Cloud, provided an exciting and fun show while showcasing the diverse cultures of St. Cloud through song, dance and other lively performances. The showcase annually features performances by SCSU students.

University Communications earns national video recognition

UComm claimed five awards during the 38th Annual Educational Advertising Awards for video content that displays exceptional quality, creativity and message effectiveness.

St. Cloud State University hockey fans are a passionate pack.

And thanks to their generous efforts, SCSU student broadcasters had another chance to head on the road to cover the Huskies at the NCAA Men’s Hockey Tournament, where SCSU opened up play against Minnesota State-Mankato on March 23 and later faced the University of Minnesota in the Regional Final on March 25 in Fargo, North Dakota.
